For this project, we built a series of climate stations with sensors specialized in capturing environmental variables, such as the level of humidity in the atmosphere, temperature variation, carbon footprint, among others. The aforementioned indicators allow us to draw our own statistics that reflect the human impact on a given environment and the erosion of the landscape.

With the data recorded by the weather stations, a sort of sculptural relief made of hand-cut paper is created as an archival document. We are interested in georeferencing the data captured in a cartographic projection system. In the resulting image, by connecting the different vectors on the surface of a map, a sort of statistical diagram emerges that reflects the complexities of biological, political, economic and industrial cycles.

So far, weather stations have been used to capture information in different locations in Havana, New York, Mexico City, Paris and Madrid. Our installation in the Parque Florido Garden of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum is a new stage in our research effort and its purpose is to monitor different environmental variables in this specific place during the period of time that the exhibition "Exhibition of Sculptures" organized by the Association of Art Galleries of the city lasts. At the same time, these weather stations will be daily filtering water for the irrigation of six orange trees belonging to the gardens. Twice a week this website will show the data collected through the installed weather stations.

The orange tree (Citrus auratium) is an evergreen fruit tree that flowers from February to June. It is native to India, Pakistan, Vietnam and Southeast Asia. It was brought by Vasco de Gama to Spain in the 15th century and offers a pleasant and relaxing aroma. As a curious fact, we know that it was one of Lázaro Galdiano's favorite trees.

Alex Hernández (Havana, Cuba, 1982) and Ariamna Contino (Havana, Cuba, 1984))

Ariamna Contino and Alex Hernández-Dueñas are visual artists from Havana who have achieved international recognition for both their individual careers and the artistic collaborations they have developed since 2014. Their work is characterized by the artistic transformation of raw materials to explore the impact of human intervention on the environment, while presenting a utopian vision of the return of matter to its natural state.

In 2019, the artistic duo represented Cuba at the 57th Venice Biennale with their installations. That same year, their work was presented at the Museum of Concrete Art in Ingolstadt, Germany, on the occasion of the Bauhaus centennial. Contino y Hernández's work has been exhibited at the New Museum and the Brooklyn Museum, among others, and is part of important public and private collections, including the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Jorge M. Pérez Collection, and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, among others.
