The Bravú

Dea Gómez and Diego Omil have been working together since 2012 under the name "Los Bravú", a Galician term used to refer to the smell of animals. They have ventured into different media: comics, drawing, ceramics, painting, sculpture and installation. Their peculiar pictorial language; of figurative cut, flavored with slightly surrealist fantasies and a neo-Mannerist virtuosity; stands out for the methodical use of collage and fusion. They mix elements of contemporary design, fanzines, mass media and an academic aesthetic reminiscent of the masters of the Italian Renaissance (XV and XVI centuries), and magical realism (first half of the twentieth century). They mix different ways of painting in the same painting, so that each element in their scenes has an untransferable identity. They mix urban and vernacular culture. They mix fascination and irony.
The intelligence and sophistication of his scenes, full of subtlety and ambiguity, stand out. In his interest in the monumentality of the trivial and the icons of mass culture, we can see a critical and intuitive look, interested in redefining some of the terms of the identity of contemporary Europe. Indeed, his style is an expression of the degree of awareness of a late culture. Living and compulsively capturing everything that interests them is crucial in their work process. They possess an enormous, almost sickly archive, where dissimilar fragments of reality end up; from a texture, an icon, a smell, to an instant of urban life, or a popular festival. All that information gravitates and sediments in his works. His main focus is the volatility of the social realities of the contemporary world, the overflowing traffic of information, and the iconography filtered through the self-representations of the new generations in charge of the socio-cultural discourse.
