Madrid, Spain, 1977

Projected from concerns linked to concepts such as the fragmentary, the simulacrum and the representation or the verisimilar and taking the History of Art and humanity or the creative process itself as axes, "Martin Silva's painting could be described as of hauling and reconsideration. Hauling not only because, even using this architectural term, the painter can take pre-established images, but also because his studio seems to become a sort of deposit, a warehouse in which images and works -or attempts at them- accumulate, which may, years later, find a meaning that they did not have when they were cornered, discarded for their lack of relevance and opportunity. The studio becomes a kind of cellar; those materials see time go by and the artist returns to them, to the barrel to -now yes- rack them, recover them. This also makes the studio a sort of cartographic archive; in the disorder, in the process of searching, almost of disinterested drifting through all that accumulated, the author may find himself again with discards or attempts that, with the passage of time or the circumstances of each project, can make them valid and relevant materials: they are a sort of flashbacks, of returns to a past through those remains that show him how solutions or newly inaugurated paths (...)" (Juan Francisco Rueda).

Nacho Martín Silva holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid. Among his most recent individual projects are Extraño Paraiso at the El Apartamento Gallery in Havana, Piece of Trash at the Miró Foundation in Mallorca, Carcoma en la madera at the Max Estrella Gallery, Il futuro non è ciò che era, curated by Tolo Cañellas, at Box 27, in Casal Solleric (Palma), Tirar del hilo hasta quedar ciego at José de la Fuente (Santander) or El Gran Estudio, curated by Ángel Calvo Ulloa, at the Centro de Arte de Alcobendas (Madrid).
