José Bedia's work combines his deep interest in tribal anthropology and ethnographic research, his sensitivity to fieldwork, and multiple layers of sociological and historiographical analysis. He is particularly interested in analyzing the workings of iconographic systems associated with different cultural traditions around the world. As part of his artistic practice he spends long periods of time living with indigenous cultures of Africa, Asia and America. It is thanks to his continuous interactions with these traditional cultures that, upon returning to his study, he deepens his search for the permanent archetypes of humanity.
