state of silence

State of Silence" starts from an appeal, a sort of invocation or nostalgia, to the untranslatable, hermetic, ritual, that which is on the margins. Tired of the dismantling and scrutiny of art at the hands of critics, the public, the gallery owner, Lester Alvarez restores, in a gesture of symbolic nature, an essential area of silence. Susan Sontag would say that "the word puts an end to thought", hence, Lester prefers to be silent, to open up to the most intimate mysteries of the work and the praxis itself, to let them be. That is why the set of books that make up his collection "La maleza", is closed from its origin, thus born, marked by the impossibility of being read (in all cases they are unpublished titles, volumes that have been preterit despite the relevance of their authors). And that is also why the display case full of glass that falls to the floor of the gallery lacks audio in the video that records it. It is an exercise in rescuing that which remains in the shadows: making silence in order to listen.
