L'une des constantes de l'\u0153uvre de Juan Baraja est associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la formation qu'il a re\u00e7ue dans le laboratoire de d\u00e9veloppement analogique pendant ses \u00e9tudes aux Beaux-Arts et \u00e0 la recherche sur la lumi\u00e8re. Dans sa r\u00e9flexion sur la photographie et l'architecture, la lumi\u00e8re acquiert la condition de mat\u00e9riau constructif. C'est sur cette base qu'il a produit la s\u00e9rie Hip\u00f3dromo, r\u00e9alis\u00e9e dans la premi\u00e8re partie de son activit\u00e9 professionnelle en tant que photographe en 2014, ainsi que \u00c1guas Livres. Son attention se porte ici sur l'architecture rationaliste de l'Hip\u00f3dromo de la Zarzuela, situ\u00e9 sur la colline de la Zarzuela pr\u00e8s de Madrid et construit en 1931. L'installation principale de l'hippodrome est l'\u0153uvre des architectes Carlos Arniches Molt\u00f3 et Mart\u00edn Dom\u00ednguez, avec la collaboration de l'ing\u00e9nieur Eduardo Torroja.

L'exceptionnelle qualit\u00e9 architecturale du complexe, notamment de ses tribunes, d\u00e9clar\u00e9es Monument historique artistique en 1980 et Bien d'int\u00e9r\u00eat culturel en 2009, est rythm\u00e9e par les al\u00e9as de son histoire.
la gestion et l'exploitation. Promu apr\u00e8s l'expropriation de l'ancien Hip\u00f3dromo de la Castellana pour la construction des Nouveaux Minist\u00e8res, c'est finalement le r\u00e9gime du G\u00e9n\u00e9ral Francisco Franco qui a c\u00e9d\u00e9 le terrain et le b\u00e2timent, commenc\u00e9 presque dix ans plus t\u00f4t, \u00e0 la Sociedad de Fomento y Cr\u00eda Caballar de Espa\u00f1a par le biais d'un d\u00e9cret-loi en 1940. La faillite de cette soci\u00e9t\u00e9 en 1992 a entra\u00een\u00e9 des appels d'offres, des fermetures et des r\u00e9attributions successives jusqu'en 2005, date \u00e0 laquelle elle a rouvert ses portes avec la gestion et la participation \u00e0 l'administration et aux infrastructures de Patrimonio Nacional, Hip\u00f3dromo de la Zarzuela, S.A. et SEPI.<\/p>
