In this edition of NADA New York we have presented a selection of paintings by the artist Eloy Arribas (Valladolid, Spain). Through them we show a very recent area of his artistic research, the series El Palacio. Eloy explores a new way of approaching painting. 

This series of paintings has been produced using a unique technique: the drawings are produced using the method strappoin which paint surfaces are extracted from a single wax mold that is continually modified with each new drawing. This technique establishes a bidirectional genealogy between the various drawings, allowing the position of each piece within the ensemble to be traced at any time and its predecessors and immediate successors to be identified. As in a palace with a from of rooms, where the next room cannot be accessed without passing through the previous one, this method embodies a physical conception of time: it lasts as long as the journey lasts, and the room (or the drawing) becomes the unit of measurement.

Since the previous drawing is not erased from the wax mold, the traces of the previous works remain, partially fading away as the series (and the journey) progresses. In this way, and starting from the representation of essential figures (plants, architecture, human figure, etc.) as a premise, the accumulation of marks and residues gradually abstracts the original figuration, establishing a subtle game of concealment and veiling.
