The work explores the historical interaction between the physical urban space bordering the sea and the erosive forces that shape it. To this end, the artists selected a specific segment of Havana’s coastline characterized by its intense relationship with the ocean’s erosive processes. Using climatological and statistical data from that area, they designed a surface graph that served as the basis for constructing the work’s form: a sculpture conceived as a Laboratory Piece.

Created specifically to blend in with the surrounding architecture—particularly the Malecón wall—the piece remained on display for several months following its unveiling at the 13th Havana Biennial. During that period, it functioned as a continuous data-collection device, generating new data on the site, its coastal flooding, salinization rates, and rainfall levels recorded along that stretch of the Malecón.

The information obtained will subsequently be used to develop an equation designed to represent the specific seascape of this area.
