Alejandro Gonzalez

The work of Alejandro González (b. 1974, Cuba) addresses topics such as individual freedoms, power and simulation. González use the photograph as a tool to create works with a solid conceptual foundation, in tune with the sensibilities of contemporary art. His series have evolved from portraying marginalized minorities to scenes choreographed with actors or representations of worlds meticulously constructed in his studio. In his most recent series, uses metaphors that explore universal and timeless conflicts.
González He was educated at the Art Academy for Measure from Cologne and further refined his practice working with renowned photographers like Diego Goldberg, Luis González Palma, Edgar Moreno and José M. Mellado. It has exposed at the Alvar Aalto Museum in Finland, the Museum of Fine Arts from Houston and the Museum Quai Branly.
His works include his time in Paris and Kyotographie in Japan. His work form part of the collections of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, The Walker Art Center from Minneapolis and the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba, among others. González received the Casa de las Award The Americas in Photography (2009, Havana). González lives and works in Havana.
